VIVID RECOLLECTIONS AND STORIES

BOWMORE - In early June, 1943, a collision between a dinghy and a Sunderland resulted in the dinghy driver, LAC Jones, RAF, falling in the bay. Sgt. Lew Guggiari, one of the squadron's pilots, almost drowned in an unsuccessful attempt to save Jones. Guggiari was later mentioned in dispatches for his effort.

(Unfortunately Lew was with George Holly when they crashed off Norway in May, 1944).
