VIVID RECOLLECTIONS AND STORIES

TO RUSSIA AND RETURN It was a vivid and unusual trip I took in a Catalina FP105 1st. September, 1942 leaving at 15:45 hours for Lake Latka from Sullum Voe (14.30 hours in daylight and 7 hours night...total twenty-one and a half hours), then on to Murmansk on the 5th. September (four and a half hours).... with a return trip 8th September from Grasnaya for Invergordon that took 19 hours and and 45 minutes.
After that I did 4 flights on Lerwick L7250 in October/42 with F/L Grant (Australian).
First flight in a Sunderland was on 17 December, 1942, the ill-fated W6029 which crashed in the sea near Oban on the 19th December, 1942.
My flying with Bill Wallace was first on Catalina VA728 on Christmas Day, 1942, and I flew with him on 150 trips.

I was Duty Signals Officer at Castle Archdale, also paymaster , flew 928 hours on Flying Boats.

THE MAY 2007 REUNION IN WINNIPEG BROUGHT TEN 422 MEMBERS AND THIRTY FAMILY TO CELEBRATE 65 YEARS SINCE THE SQUADRON WAS FORMED FOR THE BATTLE OF THE ATLANTIC.
